Page 50 Podcast

We’re Halcyon and Lauren and we’re two sisters with a passion for literature and acquiring knowledge. Lauren is an accomplished author and Halcyon is a licensed clinician. We both grew up in the same home but our taste in books couldn’t be any more different. What we do have in common is a love for deep and meaningful conversations and a disdain for wasted time. When reading books, we each have a limit as to how much of a bad story we can tolerate and page 50 is the limit. That’s why we’ve created a podcast where we discuss books where getting past page 50 wasn’t a struggle for either one of us. On this podcast we will talk about books that grabbed us from the beginning and that we couldn’t put down but there is a catch: all of the authors that we feature will be approaching the golden age of 50. We truly believe that authors who hit their stride in mid-life don’t get enough shine and we’re here to give them their flowers. So please, join us on this new adventure as we read, converse with authors, and celebrate the richness of life through all things books.

Melissa Febos joins us to discuss her new book, The Dry Season. In the wake of a catastrophic two-year relationship, Melissa decided to take a break: For three months she would abstain from dating, relationships, and sex. By abstaining from all forms of romantic entanglement, Febos began to see her life and her self-worth in a radical, new way. Her year of divestment transformed her relationships with friends and peers, her spirituality, her creative practice, and, most of all, her relationship to herself.
Join us for this candid and deep conversation with Melissa about her book and the lessons she's learned in life so far.
